i answered this question on a different blog. its dil se, the film.
1,2, and 3 were the executive producers, and collaborated as 'india talkies' for only one film.
manjit bawa, the painter, was associated with it.
spike lee used 'chaiyya chhaiyya', originally from dil se, in his film 'inside man' for the beginning and ending credits.

this was also the first hindi/indian film to enter the UK top 10.
